Lanita Sconce Smith has been researching and producing family history books for over 20 years. She is an award winning genealogist who has won awards for the family history books she has produced. Specializing in U.S. history research and researching through the census back to 1850, documentation such as census images and other records, are included in the book. Research time can take up to 2 months depending upon the family and their records. Lanita is founding President of the Daviess County Genealogical Society, Daviess County, Missouri. A member of DAR, she is also a direct descendant of Civil War veterans, and a War of 1812 soldier. She has published over 100 books, planned family reunions, and established friendships with many newly found cousins. She is highly respected for her research and thoroughness.
She is especially proud of finding the burial place of her great grandfather's 17 year old step brother who died during the Civil War. His burial place had been moved after the Civil War, without the family's knowledge or consent. After finding the grave, she proved to the government [VA] that the name on his tombstone was incorrect, and ordered a new one. The new stone was placed, and a special Union Funeral Service with Re-enactors were there to dedicate the stone and provide the first family-attended service for the young Union Soldier.
